In this book Pull a kid named David for his mother's death. There parents had been divorced and one night his father had come over to their home. David was hurt and had took some sleeping pills so he would know longer feel the pain anymore. While he was sleeping in his room David's mother was shot in their front room. David's younger sister Barney had to walk in their mother's blood that night to reach the telephone and call for help. It was because he was useless David felt like it was his fault she was gone. Had he not taken those pills he feels that his mother probably would have been alive. David, and his two younger sisters, Barney and Linda had to go and live with their aunt Edie. If it weren't for her the three siblings would have been split up. Upon returning to a new school David changes his last name from his dad's to his mothers, Albacore. David has vowed never to play basketball again and is only focusing on the three main aspects of his life: school for his mom, taking care of his sisters, and having a job. All this is doing good until he falls for the most beautiful girl, Yolanda, in school who is being treated wrong by her boyfriend Malik who hits and cheats on her. The basketball coach finds out about David's past and ask his aunt to permanately have his last name changed to Albacore. David's school team always lost and Malik was a ball hog so David felt that it was his job to make them feel they are good, and at the same time help them to when games. To stay on the team he had to lower his job hours and the amount him and his family spent. Later on in the story Yolanda and David become an Item. Malik is upset and starts going out with David's freshmen sister, Barney. Malik wants to have sex with Barney but Yolanda has made a deal with Malik that if she leaves her alone he could take her instead. David found out about all that was going on and went to Malik's house and had Yolanda by his side saying she didn't have to do this. David could of recieved a scholarship to for basketball but he said taking care his aunt that had got sick, his family, and his girl was more important.
"Did Antwon, David's father, spend a single second considering what he was condeming us to when he pulled that trigger?"&"David Murhaselt sure didn't when he took those painkillers, dropped his head on the pillow and slept through everything that followed."
-----This is when David was blaming himself and his father for the death of his mother. He was upset with his dad because he wanted to know was he thinking straight when he was to kill the one that supported and took care of their child. Then he blaimed himself because he was asleep while his mother was being murdered and as the man of the house he feel he basically let her die because he couldn't defend or help her.
Reading this book it connects to my life sort of. I feel that me and David would really have a lot in common. Considering I lost my mom and he lost his. My dad didn't kill my mom but we do not speak because I am upset at his and David is upset at his father. I feel that some things that happened in this book are similar to the things that happened in my life. I am happy that i got a chance to read this book because for some events that are similar to mines it feels as if it is in third person for myself. I enjoyed reading it and I hope the author makes a sequal or something as good as this book because I would love to keep reading.
